Team Orange beat down by the Blues

Game one of the new Series was a bit of a blowout.

The Blueshirts had all the time in the world once they set up in the offensive zone. Orange was back on their heels a little bit, waiting for the inevitable one time set up pass from Joe Snook who registered 2 goals and 2 Assists. He could have had a few more as he set up a few spectacular attempts for Erick "Shrek" Borek.

Borek had a pretty good night of his own putting up 4 assists for the Blueshirts. The London Hussars Captain has started this season off with quite the little run here. He has strung a couple good games together and is quietly sitting tied for second place in points with 10 in 4 games.

Hockey-Life.ca Rookie Nathan Moniz kept up his great form as he was involved in all the goals for Orange. Nathan was in a giving mood with 4 assists and one Geno. Look out for this kid, at this rate he may challenge Bobby D and Shawn "Boom Boom" Herman for the Set up man title this season.

Herman also put up 4 assists leaving him one behind Borek for the lead. Shawn couldn't buy a goal on Thursday night, his vision control was slightly off. His frustration was evident on the bench, Shawn yelled "Two breakaways and I couldn't do S***!!" as he slammed the gate shut behind him.

Cris Cervoni brought his work boots to the arena but wasn't rewarded for his hard work. Cervoni was kept of thee score sheet, it looks like his stellar form from last season has worn off. The nicest play Cris made was when he battled down low behind then net, beat two Blue jerseys for the puck and tossed out a sweet little dish into the slot. Ryan Urquhart pounced on it with a quick snap shot only to be turned away by Matt Lunnen.

On a night where not much went right for Orange, Rob "Bobby D" Devries had a beauty of a goal. Rob took a sand wedge like swing at a loose puck and stuffed it right under the crossbar for his only tally of the night.

The Blueshirts wouldn't be out done on the nice goal count though. They looked like the Harlem globetrotters out there with crisp passing and sweet dangles. Zyad "you don't mess with the Zohan" Osman decided to go for one of his trademark skates. Sweat pants blowing in the wind as he passed through everyone on Team Orange. Zyad went coast to coast and ripped one shelf for his only goal of the game. It was like Deja Vu all over again.

Andrew Graham was seen speeding around the entire ice surface chasing down pucks and getting into open shooting lanes. If Hockey-Life.ca has a fastest skater competition he would be in contention for sure. Andrew had two goals, one of which was a panty dropper for sure. Graham stepped up to the hash marks and pounded one top shelf glove side on a helpless tender.

This game could have been a lot worse. Team Orange left their goalie to deal with a lot of one timers (some connected and some didn't) and odd man opportunities. On the bright side of things, team Blue was a little stacked due to the amount of spares they needed. This week the teams should be a little more even.

Game Two goes Thursday at 10 Pm at The Western fair.

May 8, 2012

The second series of Tuesday night's kicked off this week with Team Green hanging on to edge out Team White.

Team White welcomed back goaltender Brad "Amberly Down" Amberly between the pipes for his first game of the summer series. Both tenders looked to be in game form as the puck was dropped to being what would no doubt be an incredibly close series two.

The game started off with the line of Alpaugh, Osman teaming up with the Ernie "The Cannon" Borek, who quickly showed that the success of that line had little to do with Rob Devries, as all three pitched in to put one past Amberly for a 1-0 lead.

All things seemed to be going Green's way until a terrible defensive play by Shawn Herman lead to a Chris Cervoni wrap around goal to knot things up at 2 a piece. Later in the game Herman also made a defensive mistake that lead to one of Ryan "I don't know what an assist is" Wiggle's 5 goals.

Clearly upset with his two mistakes, Shawn felt he needed to help his team out and did just that. Starting from his own end and taking it the length of the ice to burry one upstairs in close on the White tender to give Green a two goal lead. Seconds after the goal, Ryan Wigle decided to put the team on his back one more time and skate in to the zone and put one past the Jordie to bring the game within one. That is as close as White would get, as Green held off some last minute plays to maintain their one goal lead and take game one in the series.

Notable mentions to the entire Green team who all managed to put a mark on the score sheet, including Spence who was in the giving mood handing out 3 assists. While only 4 players managed to get onto the score sheet for the White team.

Game two is next Tuesday at the Western fair, with puck drop at 9:15

Thursday May 3 2012... Welcome to the Gun Show

The Orangemen came out with a whole new look, new lines and a new attitude. This is exactly what they needed after a Game Two loss that could have been a lot worse if not for some goaltending heroics from Jaime Slade.

Game Three saw the goalies switch ends and it was now Jorge's turn to step it up. He was his usual self making plenty of "couch" saves along the way. The prettiest one was when he slid across the crease and literally toe punted the puck out of play.

The Blueshirts had two new contract players join the Team in Nathan Moniz and Jeff Baxter. Both of which made an immediate impact. Nathan potted a Gino and two apples while Jeff had 2 Goals and one Assist. Welcome to the league boys, you're a great fit.

Former "Phil Kessell" award winner Sean O'Brian, chipped in with a goal and an assist and looks to have shaken off the rust as he's been a solid addition to the blue line. Although the scouting report on him is still that he needs to work on his point shot.

Tommy D continues to improve and added another Goal for the Blueshirts. Tommy on the spot once again found a rebound in the slot and didn't hesitate to "bury that fool", as quoted by Adam Klimowicz.

Team Orange did carry most of the play and were chipping away early and often at the Blueshirts goalie. A big breakout game came from Marc "Vision Control" Corbeil, who wore that left trigger out en route to 3 Goals and 3 Assists. Jeff Debus had a Hatrick while Cris Cervoni matched that with 3 Assists.

The Orangemen went ahead early and it really looked like we would have a rout on our hands, but Blue really fought back and got within a couple to make it respectable. Final score, Orange - 12 Blue - 9.  Orange wins the series 2-1.

Look for new teams this week boys.

An event of Epic Proportions!!

This week we have a pleasant surprise for the Hockey-Life universe. Shawn "Boom Boom" Herman, who is famous for leading a penalty less league in penalties, will strap on the goalie pads and make his goaltending debut for the London Hussars on Friday Night in the Rookie League.

Herman looks to fulfill his boyhood dream of being a utility player in the sport of Hockey at 7:30 on the pristine Brookside Ice Pad.

We encourage all of our Hockey-Life members to come out and enjoy the festivities.

The first of the Summer series is over with an EXPLOSION

Team green advanced through after an offensive explosion late in game 3, courtesy of 4 players on the team.

The game seemed to be on an even keel through the first half with both teams exchanging goals here and there. Most notably a tick tack play started by Dejaan as he fell to the ice on what seemed to be a dirty hit. Not one to give up on the play slides the puck to the Italian Stallion Christopher "Crossbar" Cervoni, who made a fancy no look pass to Dan Tiggert who buried the biscuit  from the slot to secure Cervoni’s 100th Career point with Hockey Life.

Tensions were high until Shawn Herman fell on the puck while trying to retrieve the milestone rubber for his teammate. When asked for comment he simply said "I think I tore my sack".

Cleary offended with the puck thievery, Team Green unleashed their big guns sending Devries, Osman and Alpaugh out to just "Globetrotter" the White defensive pairing of Herman and Brown. More often than not, when Goalie Mat Lunnen looked up, he would find only one white defender and three green shirts on several occasions. As if that power line wasn't dangerous enough, defensive aid was never too far behind when the puck would trickle to Dman Demelo, only to find its way into the back of the net three times.

Just when momentum would start to swing in White's direction, a turnover would hand control of the game back to Green. White was able to prevent goals on several of their turnovers, but were not able to stop the Quarter Hour (15 points total) Line. One breakout pass meant for Ryan Wiggle from defenseman Herman was intercepted by Devries, who then skated into the slot and buried the puck. When asked for comment after the game Herman was quoted by saying "I think I tore my sack".

In the end the Green team walked away with a 10 3 victory, getting support from 5 players and a stellar goaltending effort courtesy or Jordie Margison.

One round is in the books and as Jay – Z says "It's On To The Next One"

Week Two

The second game of our Tuesday Series was a little more lopsided than the first. Team Green took home a huge "W" going up 1 - 0 in the series. The top line once again produced heavy points for the Greens who put up 8 Goals while the opposition was only able to muster 3.

Robbie Devries scored twice and set up 5 goals, Chris Alpaugh had yet another Hat-Trick and chipped in with two assists while Zayad Osman matched that feat with 3 goals and 2 apples.

The White team's goal scorers were not able to set up a legitimate attack. Ryan Wigle potted twice and Kevin Dejean added one. The big difference here was that Cris Cervoni was held off the score sheet for the first time in ages.

Game Two goes Tuesday May 01 at 9:15 pm, if Team White is to come back in this series they will need to find a way to get old Cervone's going again.

Thursday's game two was a frustrating event for team Orange who came in with a 1-0 series lead. The Blue Shirts went up early and had a pretty secure lead. Jamie Slade came up with some spectacular saves for the Orangemen. This gave them a little bit of a boost and had the score line at 6-4 coming into the last 15 mins of the game. The line of Joe Snooks, Josh Wright and Andrew Graham proved to be too much though, having 10 points between them they tic tac toed their way to a 7-5 win.

Just an update too, we have now filled all the contract spots. Not to worry though, we always need spares as people have "real" jobs other than living the dream playing puck. So if you know anyone that wants to be on the spares list, have them contact either Marek or Adam. They can also sign up right on the website.

See everybody next week!
