Final Stretch

It has taken four games for Precision Auto Works to suffer their first loss of the season. CB Teez showed up motivated to stay in the mix for first place and took home the W in convincing fashion with a 7-4 win.

In the other game, once favoured to dominate this season FitzRays was defeated by AB Transport 9-8. AB Transport finally puts up their first win of the season in what many players called the best game of the season. It looks like AB Transport is turning things around after their poor start while Fitzrays has yet to win a game on the ice at the Western Fair.

The upcoming games are going to prove vital as the teams fall into their places before the playoffs begin. Precision Auto Works takes on FitzRays who sit only two points behind them for first place. While CB Teez will battle it out with AB Transport. Things are getting really close and depending on the outcome of this week's games they could get even tighter.

A friend reminder to everyone: As the games get a little closer and heated. Lets make sure we respect each other out there. We need to keep calm and make sure our goalies are safe in their nets. Everyone has to work the next day and no ones out there trying to hurt anyone.

Stats Round up:

Brad Amberley is currently tops in the GAA department with a 3.00 Average.

Marc Corbeil and Chris Alpaugh are tied with 14 pts each, which is what we all expected from the # 1 and 2 picks.

Jason Garnett is the number one top dish guy with 8 apples as his linemate Andrew Graham leads the league with 9 goals.

Marc Corbeil also has 8 apples while linemate Adam Klimowicz has 7 goals. Chris Alpaugh is only one Goals back from Graham sitting at 8 Genos.

Something's gotta give

Another week come and gone in the Hockey Life season, let's check and see what happened on the ice.

The game that everyone was talking about took place on Tuesday, when winless AB Transport took on the undefeated Precision Auto Works. As stated by one of the players before the game "Something's gotta give".

The game started out fast and tightly played with both teams testing the tenders early. Both Jordie and Jamie seemed like neither one was willing to give in. When a quarter of the way into the game Andrew Graham put the biscuit in the basket to put PAW up by one. Shortly after power player Luigi "Fuck Mario" Colella went end to end and flipped the puck over the outstretched bad of Jamie Slade. Things stayed pretty even, until half way through the game when PAW went to work dismantling AB Transport's defense and jumping out to a wide lead.

Tensions mounted as even former roommates, and rumored best friends, Ernie "The Big Man" Borek and Shawn "That wasn't a Trip" Herman exchanged words of anger during the game. Josh and Jason Allen were also victims of the hostility during the game. When asked for comment after the game, Captain Borek said "When you're losing three games you get frustrated and shit happens".

On the other side of town things were also a little heated at rookie goalie Mark "Petit Denon" Denomme made his debut in the show. Early on he struggled to find his stride as he let a quick offence push by the Fitz Rays team pass him three times. Once able to regain his composure he stepped up and did what needed to be done, shutting down a penalty shot.

Not willing to lay back and take it, CB Teez fought back to only come up a little short with a final of 4-3. Tempers grew as Chris "The Crossbar" Cervoni was up to his usual tactics of getting all up in the goalie's face. Matt "Spider Legs" Spence took exception to this and words were exchange, but cooler heads did prevail and both shook hands at the end of the game. A ritual that all know is very dear to Cervoni's heart!!!

After three weeks of great hockey, Chris Alpaugh and Andrew Graham are the points leaders with 10 each, while number one overall Marc Corbeil struggles to find the star power that he had in the summer. No doubt still a lingering effect of the end of season collision between himself and AB Captain Ernie Borek. Between the pipes the lowest GAA thus far lands on the shoulders of Jamie Slade with an impressive 3.66 in 3 games.

Three games in and a whole season to go, let's keep it clean and when things get chppy just remember the words of Cervoni "SHAKE MY FUCKIN HAND!" then have a beer and get over it.

See you next time and remember... Don't be a PLUG!

Fast and Furious

With the weather getting colder it means it's time for long underwear... AND Winter Hockey here at Hockey Life.

The season has started fast and furious, with all the teams looking good and games being played tighter than usual in the Hockey Life seasons past. It seems that people take it a little more serious when you're playing for real team pride.

Coming off of a Summer season as the best goalie in the League Jordie Margison and his team AB Transport, are having a hard time finding their stride. While allowing 14 goals in two games, blame cannot land solely on the keepers back, as AB Transport has only been able to muster 3 goals. As any season beer league vet will tell you, it's hard to win a game with one goal.

Stepping up his game and making saves with everything he's got Brad Amberly has allowed only 5 goals in two games netting him the best GAA thus far. That being said his team has only been able to muster one win with him keeping them in the game. Surely things will turn around for CB Teez as they find their offensive stride together.

Number one overall draft pick Marc Corbeil has only been able to muster 6 points in the two games, leaving him in a tie with line mate Adam Klimowicz. Overall points leader and second overall draft pick Chris Alpaugh could not be reached for comment, so one was made up for him.

"Whose number 1 now Adam?"

In a shortened season before the mid winter re-draft, Precision Auto Works looks to be in playoff form. Keeping their heads in the game, pouring the pressure on and holding the sole undefeated title lead by the GM/Coaching expertise of Tommy "The Dream" Dydynski.

Two games in and a whole season to go. All the teams are looking good and keeping the pace of hockey more fast and furious than a Supra with a spoiler, spinners and glowing under lights.

Good luck to everyone and remember, to keep your stick on the ice and your head up in the corners.

Winter Season

The Winter season has started off just as expected. There have been some close games and a few high scoring affairs. After 2 weeks Precision Auto sits at the top of the table winning both of their games. FitzRays and CB Teez sit tied for second with 1 win and 1 loss each. AB Transport has had a tough start to the season dropping both of their games and only scoring 3 goals in the process.

Week 3 will pit Precision Auto Works against AB Transport. Precision Auto will attempt to go undefeated owning all 3 opponents while AB Transport is going to have to pull out all the stops in order to get their first win in what is set to be their toughest game yet.

In the other game we have two teams who have split their first two games going 1-1. Fitzrays is coming off of a 10-6 loss at the hands of Precision Auto Works and will be looking to bounce back against a CB Teez team that looks to remain in the win column after beating AB Transport 8-1 last week.

A big shout out goes to everyone who has paid up their balance already, we have a huge order going out for Free Hockey-Life Hoodies.

Keep an eye out for us this week on Local Rogers Cable channel 13, Thursday October 18th we will be on the air at 9:30 PM!

Just a couple things to keep in mind. October 25th we have ice time at the Western Fair District, starting at 9:45pm. This will run throughout the Winter Season in the original Hockey-life.ca pick up style. Spots are already running low so make sure to contact us to sign up.

We are also keeping an eye open for an additional hour of ice time starting in January, we hope to add another two teams to the Tuesday night league! So if you know anyone who may be interested please sign up on the site or send us an email for more info.

Thanks for being a part of Hockey-Life.ca, as an added bonus we have worked out a player appreciation deal with London's Source for Sports location. As a member you should have received an email or FB notification of all the great stuff you are now eligible for. If you have any questions or need more information please feel free to contact anyone of your Hockey-Life.ca reps or Team Captains. We could not do any of this without you!

Cheers from the Hockey-Life.ca Crew.

Thursdays Round Up

Our Summer seasons have officially come to a close. The Winter league is just about ready to start off and promises to be one heck of a season.

Thursday was a pretty high scoring night. Leading the way was the #1 overall pick in the Winter entry draft Marc Corbeil.

Marc amassed and incredible 90 pts in 18 games!! He lead the league in goals (49) and had an amazing 5 pts per game. This is probably why he went First overall even though he was nursing a lower body injury coming into the season.

Joining Marc in the leaders category was his Winter season teammate for Team FitzRays Nathan Moniz who took home the Assists crown with 50 apples. Watch out for these two this Winter, they are sure to be the cause of some headaches for opposing D men.

Shawn Herman won the most games finishing the season with an 85% win ratio. Herman was on the winning team 17 out of 20 times.

Tuesday October 2nd marks the first ever night for regular League play at Hockey-life.ca

We start at Glen Cairn Arena where AB Transport takes on FitzRays at 10 pm followed by Precision Auto Works meeting CB Teez at 10:15 at the Western Fair.

Lets make this a season to remember!

Summer Tuesday Nights Wrap up!

A huge Thank you goes out to everyone who helped make Hockey-Life.ca what it is today, you're all a buncha beauties. A special thanks goes out to the hard work Radek always does for us. Making all those mugs look good isn't that easy. Shawn Herman and Nathan Moniz have also stepped up to take on extra work as we grow so make sure to show all these guys your appreciation.

The Summer flew by and we are now on the cusp of starting our First 4 team league season next Week, October 02 2012.

PLAYERS: Please remember to contact your assigned Captains if you cannot make your games.

Jordie Margison took home yet another W, capping his Tuesday nights off with 13 Wins in 23 Games played. He also led all tenders in Goals Against Average registering a 5.61 GAA. Matt Lunnen came a close second with 5.90. Most importantly we did not have a single game this season where no goalies showed up, Congratulations and keep up the great play!

Our Goal scoring race ended in a tie!. Two familiar names tied at 40 goals apiece. Ryan Wigle potted 40 goals in just 20 games, while Chris "#2 overall draft pick" Alpaugh sniped 40 goals in 23 games.

Rob DeVries tied for the Assists lead this past Winter and has now stepped up to claim the playmaking throne for Tuesday with a league leading 45 Assists in 23 games. Chris Alpaugh came in second with a final count of 37 Apples.

Alpaugh, proving that he is more than worthy of his 2nd overall pick for this year's Winter season has his name all over the stats sheets. He took home the Scoring title with most overall points - 77 points in 23 games to be exact. Goals (40), Wins (16), Points Per Game (3.35) and Win % (69.6).... This guy is a machine!

Another little note to pass along. We have officially changed the name of the Phil Kessel award. Historically this would be handed out to the last player to officially bulge the onion bag. This year we actually have two players that did not register a single goal all summer long on Tuesday night. It's hard to imagine that Ryan Brown and Adrian Kwasek did not get a single "G" marked down beside their name on the board.

... sooooo the two of them will actually share the award this season but from this day forward it will be referred to as the Kwasek award. Now go out next week and be the first one to score Adrian, you're a real Gem!

Guys... we have made some real noise in London this season. We are slowly making a name for Hockey-Life.ca and this could not be done without all of you. Keep spreading the good word and always welcome the new players to our Family. Things will change a little bit this Winter with the set teams, so we all need to make sure that we keep the foundation of this league strong. Good sportsmanship, Quick Shifts and glorious Cele's.

We'll see some of you on Thursday night.. and the rest next Tuesday for Game 1! ... if you didn't sign up in time to be a part of the Winter season please register as a spare, we always need them. Also keep your eyes and ears open as we are always getting more ice.

Cheers from the Hockey-life.ca Crew

Summer Review

Tournament

Thanks for everyone participating in this summer tournament at the Ice Park where we played under the Hussars colours. Great start with a 17:0 win, 4:4 tie and a 3:1 win over the team that just killed a tired, unprepared and short benched Hussars team in the semis. Next time boys!

Congrats go out to M. Pucci holding it together and playing for the team while waiting on perhaps the arrival of his girl giving birth any minute!! Mike had a daughter the following week.

Winter season signup

We scored some prime time ice at the Western Fair starting Tuesday October 2, 2012 at 10:15pm! Signups will start shortly, but by all means the bigger response we will get the more ice times we will try to pick up in order to get something going with possible 4-6 teams. Please don't hesitate to contact us through the website, text, or simply in the dressing room to show your interest. This will allow us to plan things out for you guys so we can have a more exciting and new way of playing this winter.

Cost will most likely be around the $300.00 range for 24 games for contract players and $15.00 for spares. Jerseys will be provided each game by the captains. W'll do a half a season staring in October - December with a Christmas tourney. This would be followed by another half season from January - March.

We are always looking for new skaters and goalies. Please encourage you friends to check us out and sign up! Any suggestions are always welcome and will be addressed accordingly.

We are also looking into possible ice times Thursday and Saturday nights - again depending on the demand when people want to play.

The Hussars (beginner league) are always looking for skaters for the upcoming season which usually takes place on Friday nights at the Ice Park. The more people we get out there, the more teams we will put into the league - always a good night guaranteed followed by some beverages with the boys after the games!

Golf Tourney

This is a great opportunity for people to get together outside the rink and get some sun while playing in a random draw, paired golf tournament (location to be determined) - best ball format. Along with many prizes that will be available to win in the tourney, the top prize stands out as the winning team will receive a 50% discount on their winter season! Times, signups and details to follow shortly - keep this in mind as it will be open to new players as well.

Winner

During a recent stag and doe for Lukas Makos and Angela Gunn, we would like to thank everyone for coming out and participating in the target shooting game we had up. Congratulations to Pawel Cieslak aka. "Offside guy" winning the draw receiving a FREE upcoming winter season with Hockey-Life.ca valued at $300.00. Also huge thanks go out to Shawn Herman by providing a pair of Eagle Hockey gloves (made in London ON) valued at $150.00 which were won by our very own Radek Adamowski (aka. "The camera guy" and one of the brains behind this wonderful website). Just a few pieces of equipment and we will be able to throw him onto the ice with us!

He has not taken the gloves off since!

Sponsors

We are always looking for sponsors, prizes and promotional ideas that we can give away to our players in order to put smiles on people's faces when they come to the arena. If you have a prize or giveaway that you have in mind, please don't hesitate to put it on the table. We are always looking to help people network while playing our wonderful game each week.

Special thanks go out to our current sponsors: Precision Auto Works, Fitz Rays, AB Transport, The Meat Guy and Dave's Dude Dogs.

Also, special thanks go out to the staff at The Ice Park and The Western Fair for babysitting us while we attend our games! Great job guys - keep it up!

Happy Mid Year!

Hello to all... things have been pretty exciting around the Hockey-Life.ca universe lately. Our Summer season is rolling along nicely. After some early season blowouts the games have gotten tighter and tighter providing some great entertainment for all the fans in the stands and pine riders in the game.

A little congratulations are overdue.

As you may know we have many winners that play with us but it takes a lot of ice time and commitment to reach 100 points in one league. At the moment the 100 point club is 6 players strong. Ryan Wigle 176, Chris Alpaugh 144, Rob Devries 134, Cris Cervoni 127 and Adam Klimowicz 120 would like to welcome the newest member of the club: Shawn Herman. Who has been having one heck of a season, he has proven this by breaking the 100 point mark and is currently sitting at 109. Goes to show you that when he's not busy being a beauty, he can really put up some points.

But here at Hockey-Life.ca getting points isn't the only way you can win. There are plenty of draws going on every week thanks to our amazing friends and sponsors.

Last week Adrian Kwasek took home a $79 gift certificate from "The Meat Guy" just in time for barbecue season.

Cris Cervoni was the latest winner of our $25 gift certificate to Fitzrays Restaurant and Lounge ... keep an eye out for this one and play as often as possible, your name gets entered weekly based on how many games you've played. Play twice and you get two ballots for that week.

There is also a weekly prize from "Dave's Dude Dogs, Gourmet Hot Dogs", located by The Beer Store at the intersection of Adelaide St. and Lorne Ave., Dan Tigert took home $10 last week.

Some of you have noticed that Marek Klimowicz and Cris Cervoni have both been wearing helmet cams the last couple of weeks. This is thanks to Radek, our very own mad man tech guy. Stay tuned for some pretty sweet footage.

On a side note fellas... it looks like there is a tournament coming up in July. Hockey-Life.ca and the London Hussars are interested in putting either one or two teams together for this tournament. It all depends on how much interest we get from our members, so if this is something you want to do please contact either Marek or Adam for more details.

Team Orange beat down by the Blues

Game one of the new Series was a bit of a blowout.

The Blueshirts had all the time in the world once they set up in the offensive zone. Orange was back on their heels a little bit, waiting for the inevitable one time set up pass from Joe Snook who registered 2 goals and 2 Assists. He could have had a few more as he set up a few spectacular attempts for Erick "Shrek" Borek.

Borek had a pretty good night of his own putting up 4 assists for the Blueshirts. The London Hussars Captain has started this season off with quite the little run here. He has strung a couple good games together and is quietly sitting tied for second place in points with 10 in 4 games.

Hockey-Life.ca Rookie Nathan Moniz kept up his great form as he was involved in all the goals for Orange. Nathan was in a giving mood with 4 assists and one Geno. Look out for this kid, at this rate he may challenge Bobby D and Shawn "Boom Boom" Herman for the Set up man title this season.

Herman also put up 4 assists leaving him one behind Borek for the lead. Shawn couldn't buy a goal on Thursday night, his vision control was slightly off. His frustration was evident on the bench, Shawn yelled "Two breakaways and I couldn't do S***!!" as he slammed the gate shut behind him.

Cris Cervoni brought his work boots to the arena but wasn't rewarded for his hard work. Cervoni was kept of thee score sheet, it looks like his stellar form from last season has worn off. The nicest play Cris made was when he battled down low behind then net, beat two Blue jerseys for the puck and tossed out a sweet little dish into the slot. Ryan Urquhart pounced on it with a quick snap shot only to be turned away by Matt Lunnen.

On a night where not much went right for Orange, Rob "Bobby D" Devries had a beauty of a goal. Rob took a sand wedge like swing at a loose puck and stuffed it right under the crossbar for his only tally of the night.

The Blueshirts wouldn't be out done on the nice goal count though. They looked like the Harlem globetrotters out there with crisp passing and sweet dangles. Zyad "you don't mess with the Zohan" Osman decided to go for one of his trademark skates. Sweat pants blowing in the wind as he passed through everyone on Team Orange. Zyad went coast to coast and ripped one shelf for his only goal of the game. It was like Deja Vu all over again.

Andrew Graham was seen speeding around the entire ice surface chasing down pucks and getting into open shooting lanes. If Hockey-Life.ca has a fastest skater competition he would be in contention for sure. Andrew had two goals, one of which was a panty dropper for sure. Graham stepped up to the hash marks and pounded one top shelf glove side on a helpless tender.

This game could have been a lot worse. Team Orange left their goalie to deal with a lot of one timers (some connected and some didn't) and odd man opportunities. On the bright side of things, team Blue was a little stacked due to the amount of spares they needed. This week the teams should be a little more even.

Game Two goes Thursday at 10 Pm at The Western fair.

Friday, 11 May 2012

May 8, 2012

The second series of Tuesday night's kicked off this week with Team Green hanging on to edge out Team White.

Team White welcomed back goaltender Brad "Amberly Down" Amberly between the pipes for his first game of the summer series. Both tenders looked to be in game form as the puck was dropped to being what would no doubt be an incredibly close series two.

The game started off with the line of Alpaugh, Osman teaming up with the Ernie "The Cannon" Borek, who quickly showed that the success of that line had little to do with Rob Devries, as all three pitched in to put one past Amberly for a 1-0 lead.

All things seemed to be going Green's way until a terrible defensive play by Shawn Herman lead to a Chris Cervoni wrap around goal to knot things up at 2 a piece. Later in the game Herman also made a defensive mistake that lead to one of Ryan "I don't know what an assist is" Wiggle's 5 goals.

Clearly upset with his two mistakes, Shawn felt he needed to help his team out and did just that. Starting from his own end and taking it the length of the ice to burry one upstairs in close on the White tender to give Green a two goal lead. Seconds after the goal, Ryan Wigle decided to put the team on his back one more time and skate in to the zone and put one past the Jordie to bring the game within one. That is as close as White would get, as Green held off some last minute plays to maintain their one goal lead and take game one in the series.

Notable mentions to the entire Green team who all managed to put a mark on the score sheet, including Spence who was in the giving mood handing out 3 assists. While only 4 players managed to get onto the score sheet for the White team.

Game two is next Tuesday at the Western fair, with puck drop at 9:15

Thursday May 3 2012... Welcome to the Gun Show

The Orangemen came out with a whole new look, new lines and a new attitude. This is exactly what they needed after a Game Two loss that could have been a lot worse if not for some goaltending heroics from Jaime Slade.

Game Three saw the goalies switch ends and it was now Jorge's turn to step it up. He was his usual self making plenty of "couch" saves along the way. The prettiest one was when he slid across the crease and literally toe punted the puck out of play.

The Blueshirts had two new contract players join the Team in Nathan Moniz and Jeff Baxter. Both of which made an immediate impact. Nathan potted a Gino and two apples while Jeff had 2 Goals and one Assist. Welcome to the league boys, you're a great fit.

Former "Phil Kessell" award winner Sean O'Brian, chipped in with a goal and an assist and looks to have shaken off the rust as he's been a solid addition to the blue line. Although the scouting report on him is still that he needs to work on his point shot.

Tommy D continues to improve and added another Goal for the Blueshirts. Tommy on the spot once again found a rebound in the slot and didn't hesitate to "bury that fool", as quoted by Adam Klimowicz.

Team Orange did carry most of the play and were chipping away early and often at the Blueshirts goalie. A big breakout game came from Marc "Vision Control" Corbeil, who wore that left trigger out en route to 3 Goals and 3 Assists. Jeff Debus had a Hatrick while Cris Cervoni matched that with 3 Assists.

The Orangemen went ahead early and it really looked like we would have a rout on our hands, but Blue really fought back and got within a couple to make it respectable. Final score, Orange - 12 Blue - 9. Orange wins the series 2-1.

Look for new teams this week boys.
